[Tutorial] Basic Layers in Photoshop |

Simple Layers TutorialThis is intended to give a quick overview to a brand new Photoshop user on the most basic purpose of layers.Layers in Photoshop are used to seperate various pieces of your work from each other, and allow you to control them independantly. For example, if you write two messages each will (by default) be on its own layer. You are then able to move them independantly of each other, as well as decide their order on your sheet. This is the principle I will be demostrating through the use of a few screenshots. Step 1 - Create a new document This should be relatively simple for you, go to File and select New - enter 500x500px as your image dimensions as you can see in my example. Step 2 - Write a line I have chosen to say hello to the world, but you can write anything you want. To do this select the "T" on the tool bar and click in the middle of the document, then you can start typing! Step 3 - See your layers In your Layers tab you will now see a new layer (a type layer, illustrated by the T), with the name of whatever you have written. You will also see "Background" - this is the default "bottom" layer - e.g. the white. Step 4 - More text Now write a second message, in a clearly different colour as you can see I have done. Step 5 - See all your layers As you can see, you now have 2 extra layers created - one for each of your text messages. If you select the pointer now you can move your second message around, without moving the first. This is the primary function of layers in my opinion. Step 6 - Clarity For the purpose of clarity I have enlarged my first word. To do this reselect the "T" type tool, click on your message and at the top (in the font bar), you can select a larger size. This is not neccessary though. Step 7 - See it for yourself! As I explained in step 5, you are able to move layers. As you can see I have moved my layers so they are "on top" of each other. The Goodbye World is on top, as it is the highest on your Layers tab. Step 8 - The whole point As you can see in the image, I have now dragged my Hello World layer above my Goodbye World layer. To do this click and hold down on the layer in the "Layers" tab, and drag it up or down. Once you have changed the order of your layer you will see the second text comes forward, as illustrated below. Result

Ok i dont do any graphical design what so ever and would like to ask a favor of your guys's experience. First off if you could make a userbar that has http//gbox.forumwise.com in it and maybe says Gbox user, and for its color scheme what every you think would look best to match the forums. http://gbox.forumwise.com/forum.html?mforum=gboxMy second reqeust is a follows. We also need a new forum icon/banner. This was are previous banner and the new one that i am reqeusting needs to be the same size (width of 500 height of 100), so it fits on the psp screen. All this needs to say is Gbox, maybe some form of a box, and possible a collaboration of gaming consoles....and the color scheme for it is what ever looks good on the forums aswell. I hope that this is not tomuch to ask for, i would realy realy appretate it, and if you were wondering how we got the original icon/banner, userbars in the first place....we had a member that did graphical design but he left and now we are stuck with them.....you help will be very very appreatated -NOODL3-

Animé artist seeks feedback and commissions... |

Hi all, I'm new to Vault9, but it looks like a very interesting community; i'm looking to get some recognition for the art i work on, and perhaps even a commission or two. I would consider myself to be an animé artist at the moment, but i am now looking to adapt and go for a more realistic approach - possibly a lean towards more western-styled comic art? Anyway, if you wouldn't mind, i'd like comments and feedback on the various pieces i've been working on. A lot of it is fan-art, but there's other work in there too. Anyway, the link is... DeviantArt Gallery (http://goushuujin.deviantart.com) Well, thank you for reading this far - if you'd like to talk about commissions or if you'd like to have me aboard your team, please get in touch either by PM, or MSN/e-mail to fatal_strike( at )hotmail.com. Thank you!
